Porto Mobility Ranger Quattro Folding Power Wheelchair
- Dual 300W brushless motors
- Up to 30 miles with 3rd battery
- 2 hour fast charge
A heavy duty electric wheelchair gets three upgrades over a standard power chair. The frame is steel or reinforced aluminum instead of a travel frame, the motors and controller are larger, and the batteries are sized for the load rather than the sticker. Every chair here passed that test before it earned a place, and we fit them by phone to the rider, the longest daily distance and the car it has to travel in.
The lineup splits into two camps. Folding models like the Bangeran Mammoth EX and the Porto Ranger Magnum travel in a trunk and start at $2,499. Full size models like the Merits Atlantis trade portability for a captain seat and double the range. If you are shopping by the rider’s weight, our bariatric electric wheelchairs page lists every chair by its exact rating. Free shipping on every chair and price match on most.

The label gets used loosely, so here is the standard we apply before a chair earns a spot on this page. The frame is steel or reinforced aluminum rather than a standard travel frame. Motors and batteries are sized for the load, because a heavy rating with a short range means the maker upgraded the sticker and not the drivetrain. Every rating we quote comes from the manufacturer spec sheet, exactly as published.
| Build | What you get | What you give up | Examples |
|---|---|---|---|
| Folding lithium | Folds in seconds, 50 to 100 lb to lift, lithium batteries that charge in a few hours, joystick on either side | Sling or padded seats rather than a captain seat, 12 to 20 mile published range | Bangeran Mammoth EX, Porto Ranger Magnum, Porto Ranger The Beast, Forcemech Navigator Pro, Merits Travel Ease P181 |
| Full size AGM | Captain seat, 20 to 32 mile published range, pneumatic tires, power elevating seat on some, rear wheel drive torque for ramps | Weighs 250 to 300 lb, needs a vehicle lift or trailer to travel | Merits Atlantis, Merits Gemini, Merits Vision Super, Shoprider 6Runner 14 |

Raphael sizes every heavy duty order the same way. Take the rider’s real weight and add 50 to 75 lbs of headroom before picking the rating. A frame technically carries a rider right at its ceiling, but motor heat, battery range, and suspension all degrade there. After hundreds of fittings the pattern is consistent, the chair bought with headroom is still in service years later. The exact rating of every chair is on its product page and on the bariatric page.
Five years ago a heavy duty rating meant a 250 lb chair bolted to a van lift. The Mammoth EX changed that math. It folds like a travel chair, weighs 77 lbs with its battery, and still carries a heavy rider. The Navigator Pro does the same trick at 52 lbs of chair, and the Porto Ranger line now folds at every rating up to its Magnum. The tradeoff is seat comfort. Folding sling seats cannot match the Atlantis captain seat on an all-day basis. If the rider sits 6 or more hours a day, the full-size chairs earn their bulk, and a wheelchair carrier for your vehicle solves the transport problem instead.
Published range assumes ideal conditions. Under a heavier rider on real sidewalks, expect roughly 70 to 80 percent of the spec number. That is why range matters double in this class. The Atlantis runs 32 miles on paper, which means a dependable 22 to 25 in practice. The folding lithium models run 12 to 18 miles published. Match the chair to the longest day you actually have, not the average one.
The two overlap and we keep both accurate. This page is organized around build quality, folding against full size, frame, motors and range. The bariatric electric wheelchair page lists every chair by its exact rated capacity, from 397 lb to 660 lb, with wider seats as the priority. Same families of chairs, different way of choosing. If you shop by the rider’s weight, use the bariatric page. If you shop by toughness and want folding options in the mix, stay here.
Tell us the rider’s weight, the longest daily distance, and whether the chair has to travel by car. We will name the right chair and the wrong ones. Free shipping, price match on most products, and a real fitting call with every order.
The Porto Ranger Magnum, then the Merits Atlantis, the chair we fit most often for the heaviest riders. Every chair is listed by its exact rating on our bariatric electric wheelchairs page.
Yes, and today most of this collection folds. The Porto Ranger Magnum, Porto Ranger The Beast and the rest of the Porto Ranger line fold, the Bangeran Mammoth EX folds from $2,499, the Merits P181 Travel Ease folds at $2,869, and the Forcemech Navigator Pro is the lightest at 52 lb.
Published ranges in this collection run 12 to 32 miles. The folding lithium models cluster at 12 to 18 miles, the full-size AGM chairs at 20 to 32. Plan on about three quarters of the published number under a heavier rider.
Mostly the lens. Heavy duty describes the build, a reinforced frame and a drivetrain sized for it. Bariatric describes the rider and sorts every chair by its exact capacity and seat width. Several chairs appear in both collections.
Overall width is usually narrower than the seat width suggests because the wheels tuck under the frame. Check the overall width line on each product page against your narrowest doorway before ordering, older homes especially run tighter than the standard 32 inches.
