Overview

Ranger Maestro folding power wheelchair, left facing side view

The caregiver version of the Ranger Maestro adds a joystick holder behind the backrest so a companion can drive from behind, and the joystick moves back to the armrest in seconds when the rider wants to drive. The chair keeps the Maestro's reclining backrest, 440 lb weight capacity, two 250W motors and 5 second fold.

This is the Ranger Maestro Reclining fitted with the caregiver operation kit. A joystick holder sits behind the backrest, within reach of the person walking behind the chair, and the same joystick clips into the armrest when the rider wants to drive. Moving it between the two positions takes seconds, so a couple can share one chair through a day out.

The rest of the chair is the Maestro. The backrest reclines with an easy reach handle at the rider's side, the seat cushion is memory foam under a washable mesh cover, and the aircraft grade aluminum frame folds in about 5 seconds with a lift handle under the seat. Four shock absorbers and two 250W motors handle grass, gravel and rough pavement, and the chair is rated for riders up to 440 lbs.

The maker's caregiver listing does not repeat the Maestro's measurements. Its standard Maestro listing gives a 19 in seat, 50 lbs without batteries, two 24V 6Ah lithium batteries and up to 18 miles per charge, and we confirm those figures for the caregiver version before you order.

Key Features

  • Caregiver joystick holder behind the backrest for driving from behind
  • Joystick moves between the armrest and the rear holder in seconds
  • Reclining backrest with an easy reach handle at the rider's side
  • Rated for riders up to 440 lbs
  • Folds in about 5 seconds without disassembly, with a lift handle under the seat
  • Four shock absorbers, two front and two rear
  • Two 250W motors
  • Memory foam seat cushion with a removable washable mesh cover
  • Storage compartment under the seat

Caregiver Control

The rear joystick holder puts the controls at the push handle, so a caregiver can steer through store aisles, up ramps and through crowds while the rider sits back. When the rider wants to take over, the joystick unclips and moves to the armrest. Nothing is permanently fixed to one position, which is the difference between this chair and a dedicated attendant chair.

How It Compares

Next to the standard Ranger Maestro, this version adds the rear joystick holder and otherwise shares the same chair. The caregiver Maestro XL offers the same kit with a 21 in seat. If you want caregiver control on a lighter chair, the Ranger Super Lightweight Caregiver weighs 41 lbs without its battery and carries 265 lbs, and the Ranger Dorsia Caregiver weighs 30 lbs and carries 300 lbs.

  • Ranger Maestro reclining folding power wheelchair, angled rear view from the right with joystick
  • Ranger Maestro reclining folding power wheelchair, straight rear view showing back pocket and push handle
  • Ranger Maestro reclining folding power wheelchair folded and standing upright on its wheels, side view
  • Ranger Maestro reclining folding power wheelchair, hand holding a pack with red button at the frame tube end under the seat
  • Ranger Maestro reclining folding power wheelchair, two hands at the frame tube end, thumb on the red button

What does the Ranger Maestro Caregiver warranty cover?

Porto covers the Maestro frame for 3 years. The motors, the batteries and the controller are covered for 1 year.

Can the rider still drive the Ranger Maestro Caregiver?

Yes. The joystick moves between the armrest and the holder behind the backrest in seconds, so the rider drives when they want to and the caregiver takes over when that is easier.

What is the difference between the Ranger Maestro Caregiver and the standard Maestro?

The caregiver version adds the rear joystick holder. Everything else the maker lists is the same, including the reclining backrest, the 440 lb rating, the two 250W motors, the four shock absorbers and the 5 second fold.

Is there a wider caregiver Maestro?

Yes. The Ranger Maestro XL Caregiver has the same rear joystick holder with a 21 in seat in place of the 19 in seat on this chair.

How do I order the Ranger Maestro Caregiver?

Add it to your cart on this page and check out, which takes a few minutes. You can pay in full or choose Klarna to spread the cost over monthly payments.

Can I order the Ranger Maestro Caregiver over the phone?

Yes. Call 1-888-233-5563 and we will place the order with you. All we need is your payment method and your shipping address. Extra batteries and other accessories for the Ranger Maestro Caregiver can be added to a phone order.

Does Medicare, Medicaid or private insurance help pay for the Ranger Maestro Caregiver?

We do not work with Medicare and we do not bill private insurance directly. Some private plans will reimburse you after you buy, so it is worth calling your insurer to ask. If they say yes, we are happy to provide an invoice and proof of purchase so you can file for reimbursement.

Notice to Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries. Medicare pays for equipment only when the supplier has a Medicare supplier number. Heavy Duty Mobility does not have one, so Medicare will not pay for anything we sell you. You are personally and fully responsible for payment.

What comes with the Ranger Maestro Caregiver?

Call us before you buy and we will confirm exactly what comes in the box.

How long until my Ranger Maestro Caregiver arrives?

The Ranger Maestro Caregiver ships direct from the manufacturer, which quotes delivery in about 1 to 5 business days for models in stock. We email you the expected ship date after you order. If you need it by a certain day, call us before you buy and we will check the timing.

Will I get tracking?

Yes. As soon as your order ships we email you a tracking link so you can follow it to your door.

Can I return the Ranger Maestro Caregiver?

Yes, within 30 days of delivery, as long as it comes back in new condition in its original boxes with all of its parts. A 15% restocking fee applies. You prepay the return shipping, and the original shipping charges are not refunded, so keep the boxes until you are sure. Items sold as open box cannot be returned.

Warranty problems are handled separately and do not count as a return. Please read the full returns policy for the details.

How does the caregiver control work?

The joystick clips into a holder behind the backrest, at the push handle, so the person behind the chair drives it. Keep the speed low in stores and on crowded sidewalks so you can stop within a step. When the rider wants to drive, unclip the joystick and move it to the armrest holder.

How do I recline the backrest?

Use the handle at the side of the chair to release the backrest, set the angle and let go to hold it. Bring the backrest upright before anyone drives the chair.

How does it fold?

It folds in about 5 seconds with nothing to take apart, and the handle under the seat gives the caregiver a grip for lifting. Take the batteries out first. We can walk you through the fold by phone.

Where can it go?

Four shock absorbers and large rear wheels handle grass, gravel and uneven pavement as well as indoor floors. Take slopes slowly and straight on with the backrest upright. The maker publishes no water resistance rating, so keep the chair out of rain and standing water.

Will it fit in my car?

The maker says the folded chair fits most small trunks. Its standard Maestro listing gives a folded size of 13 x 24 x 31 in and 50 lbs without batteries, and we confirm those figures for the caregiver version if you call us with your trunk measurements.

Can I fly with it?

The maker describes the chair as suited to planes, buses, trains and cruise ships. Airlines set their own rules for mobility aid batteries, so ask us for the battery rating and confirm with your airline before you book.

How is my chair delivered?

Delivery to your curb is free. Check the packaging and the chair before you sign for it, and call 1-888-233-5563 if anything looks wrong.

Can I pay over time?

Yes. Choose Klarna at checkout to pay over time. See how financing works.

Can I talk to someone before I buy?

Yes. Call 1-888-233-5563. Real people answer, business hours and weekends.
